Working with Word Press: Book Recommendation

First off, I’m a total book junkie.  I love books.  I love the knowledge and advice that is contained in a good book, or the chance to escape to a distance time/place/reality for my amusement.

That being said, I am VERY selective about what books I will recommend to others.  Having the responsibility of selecting textbooks every semester for my classes and understanding that these books are expensive for students on a limited budget has taught me to be very demanding of books that I recommend.

I recently received a book from Wiley press on using Word Press.  Which was great, because I’ve gotten into Word Press in a big way!

I was expecting a book that was more of a PHP for Word Press, explaining what different commands do, kind of a primer for using and developing for Word Press.  This book is so much more! Written by Hal Stern, David Damstra, and Brad Williams, Professional Word Press is the book that I wish I had written.  It does a great job of explaining the basic structure of Word Press and how to use it and make modifications.  It then goes well beyond, giving recommendations for plug-ins and widgets that just make your life so much easier!

I highly recommend this book if you are planning to do anything beyond the basics with your blog.  I feel like just the recommendations on plug-ins more than covered the cost of the book on time saved!
