Adding a picture (avatar) to your Word Press or blog comments

Posted by Dr. Burton on June 23, 2010 in WordPress |

Have you ever wondered why some people have a picture beside their blog comment and you don’t?
The little picture (or avatar) is an automatic feature with most blogging software, but if you haven’t setup your avatar, it won’t appear.

Most services are using gravatar.com. Gravatar associates your email address(es) with a photo or graphic that you can upload to their site. You can have many images, each associated with a different email address, or you can have the same picture for all of your email accounts.

Once you associate a picture or graphic with your email address, anytime you use that email address to make a comment on a blog, it will automatically include the image in the comment (assuming the blog is correctly configured).

So go ahead, express yourself and let everyone know who’s doing the commenting!

I would like to start a free WordPress blog on the WordPress site (not my own domain) but I don’t like the themes they provide. Can I use a downloaded theme on there? I have seen some WordPress hosted blogs with different themes, so it looks like it’s possible.

Yes, it is possible. All you have to do is upload the theme you wish to use to the theme folder on your wordpress blog. I’m not sure of the exact process since I use my own URL, but you might be able to do it all through your wordpress dashboard.
